How the Daily Schedule Works |
How Days Off and Holidays WorkIf there are days off and/or holidays and you need to work then we will gladly work out a price with the parents so that they can keep their children somewhere that they trust on those days and not have to worry about losing out on days at work. We always try to make it as affordable to parents as we can because we know how everyone is struggling right now.
Please look in the children's agendas on a regular basis so that you can see what days the children have off. This is also where we will write how the children have done in school each day and what they learned. If you do need us to watch your child then we will need enough time in advance so that we can plan our days accordingly with appointments and other things we may need to get done. How the holidays and school days off work is through an old school and their schedule. We make sure that the schedule is as neutral as possible and will line up with as many schools as we can so that they can still be with their friends as long as they are also off. We do not add any extra days in there so this would be the same schedule that your child would have if they were still in a regular school in Alberta. We do fun days on holidays or the earliest date that we can do so if there is no school on the days that the holidays fall on. We dress up in certain colors, do crafts that are appropriate for the different holidays, we may have some special treats or snacks that have to do with the holiday that we are celebrating, et cetera. If there is a holiday that you celebrate then please write it into the agenda and tell us about it so that we can try to celebrate those special days with the children and teach them about your special holidays that we don't know about. This makes each child feel special and included and also helps to teach other children that not all of us celebrate the same things nor do we celebrate them in the same ways. This is the beautiful thing about different cultures is that we are all so very special! |
Right now everything is trial and error due to it being the beginning of the school year and with drop-in students coming and going which can make the schedule a little different on those days. Currently we find the best way to do the schooling right now is by doing math first, giving the kids a snack, then they will start on their English/L.A. Once they are done this then the kids get to eat their lunches and then go outside and burn off some of that accumulated energy. If they have finished early enough then we come back inside and either play strategic board games that teach them at the same time or we will throw in another course. If it's a day where we can throw in a cooking class then we will do the cooking class prior to eating and then the kids can go outdoors.
There are so many options and we work with what works best for the children. We found that doing something fun in the middle made the kids very hyper and unfocused as well as a sugary snack before the next class, so this was very challenging for some children. We will eventually find out what works best with all of them and then the schedule will remain the same for each school day, but right now we will be tweaking it every now and then. What to Expect on FridaysOn Fridays we will be making school as fun as we can for the children. This helps to get the kids excited for school each week and intrigued as to what fun thing will come next, plus they get to wind down a bit after such a long week of school.
On these days we will be incorporating some survival skills in there once or twice a month, weather-dependent, so that the children can be comfortable with things like making fires on their own, cooking on the fire, germinating seeds, planting the seeds, learning that each plant needs different environments including different pH soil levels, how to change the pH levels, learning that some plants need direct sun while others need indirect sun, learn how some plants need shaded areas, et cetera. These things will be crucial to know one day with how things are going. They will also learn when to plant certain plants and when they need to be harvested by. Survival skills wont end at just these. They will also learn things like the Morse code, how to send SOS signs, making and using slingshots, and more. We want to make school fun but we also know how crucial it is to know all of these skills, especially at this time! On days where we wont be doing survival skills we will be doing things such as art, music, science experiments, cooking class, canning different foods, and many other things; the possibilities are limitless! While it is still warm out we will be taking advantage of the warm weather and natural vitamin D while doing fun things such as going to Sandy Beach, to the zipline park, outdoor businesses that have live animals, trampolines, or other fun things that have no restrictions encouraging these current times (parents must pay for these things if there are costs involved in order to do these activities as long as the parents want their children to participate as these days are optional), swimming, and any other fun places we can come up with, again, that don't encourage the restrictions that are currently around nowadays. |
My kids have such an amazing time at this tutoring pod that I no longer have to fight with the kids to get them out of bed and ready to go to school. They are no longer being bullied due to our beliefs and no longer being mistreated by the staff at their school for their exemptions. It's so nice to be with other like-minded families; this is the most amazing opportunity in the kids' lives now!
